Pork meat quality cerification
AGRO 3 series of national standards were first issued by AGROCERT in 2002, establishing specific rules aiming at integrating and assuring quality, at reducing chemicals and drugs input and at minimizing environmental impact of framing and processing activities throughout the pig meat food chain. Provisions were initially set for production of pig feeding stuffs (Agro 3.1), continuing to setting specific requirements for pig fattening farms (Agro 3.2) and for pig slaughter houses (Agro 3.3) and finally strict rules were set for pig meat processing plants (Agro 3.4 for cutting, debunking, packaging etc).
The AGRO 3 series of standards clearly sets rules adopting a farm to table approach, thus fulfilling current European, National and International food safety and traceability statutory and legal requirements.
The AGRO 3 series of standards apply to both individual producers and/or producer groups and is open to all parties who participate in the pig meat food chain and wish to :
- introduce, implement and maintain specific requirements through well documented safety and quality procedures
- ensure that their production management system is in compliance with all related provisions laid down in the statutory documents
- demonstrate such compliance to all interested parties through third party independent certification by properly accredited management system Certification Bodies
- qualify as certified feeding stuff suppliers to large pig farms, and
- qualify as certified pork meat suppliers for large pig meat processing plants.
